butterfly

When I was about 23, my Nan gave me this butterfly necklace shortly before she passed away.

Some of my favourite memories are of sitting at her dressing table when I was little, going through all her makeup and jewellery with her.

She’d talk to me about it all, and I seem to recall it being a fairly regular occurrence. I remember her mentioning that this piece was a gift, and she really liked it, but was sad that inside it was a dead butterfly.

When I got older, she’d wear it on special occasions, and I always thought that was cool, especially because I remember her showing it to me me when I was small.

Seeing the necklace now just makes me feel sentimental and appreciative of the memories. It’s such a core memory that I know it would stay on my mind even if I no longer had the necklace, but I would miss having that connection to my childhood and Nan.
