The Mirror
This mirror was given to me by my granddad after my granny died, I was around 25 years old when he gave it to me and It was originally my great grandmother’s. It brings back lots of happy memories.
It was in the hallway at my granny’s house and she would always check her hair in it, powder her nose and put on her lipstick before she left the house. When I was little she would powder my nose and put a tiny bit of lipstick on me too. I felt very grown up and very glamorous. Happy and loved.
She was a dinner lady and when we went to the shops grown up students would always stop us to say “hello Mrs Clarke”. You could tell that they were very fond of her. I use it most days and think of her.
She was very kind and caring and always had time for a cuddle. Using the mirror and going out also usually meant a trip to the newsagents and I’d get some sweets. I’m sure she would think I’m a lost cause. No lipstick and definitely plenty of hairs out of place!
If it was gone I wouldn’t think of her so often and I would miss the comfort it gives me and it’s link to happy, carefree times. I feel very lucky to have something I can use everyday which keeps her close.
