glimmers of her
This mirror was given to me by my granddad after my granny died. I was around 25 when he gave it to me, and It was originally my great-grandmother’s. It brings back so many happy memories.
It was in the hallway at my granny’s house. She would always check her hair in it, powder her nose, and put on her lipstick before she left the house. When I was little, she would powder my nose and put a tiny bit of lipstick on me too. I felt very grown up and very glamorous. Happy and loved.
She was a dinner lady and when we went to the shops, grown-up students would always stop us to say, “hello Mrs Clarke”. You could tell they were very fond of her. I use the mirror most days and think of her.
She was very kind and caring and always had time for a cuddle. Using the mirror and going out usually meant a trip to the newsagents, and I’d get some sweets. I’m sure she would think I’m a lost cause now, no lipstick and definitely plenty of hairs out of place!
It brings me so much comfort and keeps those happy, carefree times close to me.
